Florida Orchestra Presents: Saint-Saens Organ Symphony

Florida Orchestra Presents: Saint-Saens Organ Symphony

January 6, 2017 – 7:00PM

Michael Francis, conductor
Augustin Hadelich, violin

Shepherd: Magiya
Lalo: Symphonie Espagnole
Debussy/Matthews: The Sunken Cathedral
Saint-Saëns: Symphony No. 3, Organ Symphony

Michael Francis explores the cathedral inside and out, with French composer Saint-Saens Symphony No. 3, Organ Symphony, and Debussy/Matthews The Sunken Cathedral (TFO premiere). Interestingly, despite being called the Organ Symphony, it is not a symphony for organ. In fact, organ is used in only two of the four movements, though the dramatic ending is a showstopper. Also on the program is Grammy Award winner and returning violinist Augustin Hadelich on Lalo's Symphonie espagnole and Shepherd's Magiya (TFO premiere), influenced by the great tradition of the Russian overtures and a Russian sense of magic-or magiya.
